West Prince Storm Soccer Club - Update May 5, 2024

COMMUNITY PROGRAM UPDATE:

Registrations are coming in for the under 7 and 9 age groups (as well as the under 5 program for Bloomfield) at a good pace but we could still definitely use a lot more players to register to make sure that we have an excelled sized program number for all of the age groups (U5, U7, U9 and U11).  We have a meeting soon with PEI Soccer to help develop the coaching curriculum that we would like to see all the coaches use this summer and we are in the process of scouting soccer goals and equipment for the under 9 fields that we plan to build at Hernewood.  The biggest thing right now is to please try to help us out by spreading the word to anyone you know of and to try and continue to help get the registration totals to grow.

COMPETITIVE TEAM UPDATE:

Tryouts will continue this week for several groups, please see below for your group’s time within the age group update.  We will need to get things wrapped up fairly soon on team selections so that we can get uniforms ordered for those who need a kit.  For players who need the full kit, the cost will be $30 and that will include the jersey, shorts and socks.  We know a lot of players like to have their own number for their jersey but that may not always happen as we need to get these ordered soon and this might have to happen before a team roster is finalized.  If players only need a replacement item from the previous summer, then the jersey cost would be $15, shorts would be $10 and socks would be $5.  Players will need to wear the full club uniform kit as PEI Soccer is going to be getting stricter in making sure everyone on the teams have the same uniform.  Registration fee’s will need to be paid by June 1, 2024 to avoid any late fee penalty.  Teams should all be decided within the next week to 10 days most likely so that will give everyone a couple of weeks to send in their fee (for those who have not already done so or are waiting until team selection is finalized)

Under 11 boys teams (under 9 and under 11 boys trying out) - It looks like quite a few under 9 boys are still interested in playing in the under 11 league, enough so that we should be able to get 2 teams as we have approximately 26-27 players out at the moment.  One team will play in the higher division and one in the lower division as per PEI Soccer rules so we will have to pick the teams accordingly and there may be a few players who we won’t be able to fit onto the rosters.  Anyone who does not make one of these two teams will still have the community program to fall back on.  The boys will be out twice this week:

Monday, May 6th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm (plan to be inside but bring cleats just in case)

Thursday, May 9th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm (hoping to be outside but bring sneakers just in case)

Under 11 girls team (under 9 and under 11 girls trying out) - It looks like we still have some under 9 girls who are interested in playing some competitive soccer.  Unfortunately, we don’t have enough players combined to make two teams for under 11 so we are going to go a slightly different route for this group compared to the boys.  We will have one under 11 team for girls and that team will be made up primarily of the under 11 aged girls.  For the under 9 aged girls who have been trying out, they will be welcome to continue to train with the under 11 team when they can make it out and anytime any player is missing for a league game, it will be from this under 9 group that we will be calling from to fill a roster spot for that game.  As well we will be looking to create an under 9 “club travel team” to hopefully attend a couple of the one day soccer festivals that might be held across the Island this summer as well as possibly a couple of exhibition games.  The girls will be back out twice this week:

Monday, May 6th from 6:45 to 7:45 pm (plan to be inside but bring cleats just in case)

Wednesday, May 8th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm (hoping to be outside but bring sneakers just in case)

Under 13 boys team - We will definitely have one under 13 team operating out of the Evangeline area.  We do not have any dates yet for this team to get outside and have a session.  Unfortunately, it does not look like we will be able to field an under 13 boys team in the West Prince area.  Any of the boys from up here may be able to tryout for the Evangeline area team.

Under 13 girls team - We will definitely have one under 13 team operating out of the West Prince area.  We have a full team’s worth of players now who have been out so we will get all of the uniforms sized for this team on Thursday night after practice.  Therefore the girls will be out:

Thursday, May 9th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm (hoping to be outside but bring sneakers just in case)

Under 15 & Under 18 boys - We have several boys registered at both the under 15 and under 18 level but nowhere near enough to have a team for each level for sure at this time.  We are exploring whether we can get enough between the two groups to have one under 18 aged team.  For the under 15 aged players can you please contact either Brian Allain or Sarah Richards and let one of us know whether you would be willing to attempt this as we need to know exactly where we stand.  We have another week or so to try and pull enough numbers together to do this.

Under 15 & Under 18 girls - as has been discussed this past week or two with the group who have been out, we are not going to have enough players for an under 15 team on their own and we have too many for a single under 18 team so we are going to combine the groups and we will be offering an under 18 girls premier team as well as an under 18 girls first division team.  The next tryout for this team will be:

Tuesday, May 7th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm - will be outdoors so dress appropriately.

Senior Men & Women’s Teams - registration numbers are looking very good for these 3 teams, 1 on the men’s side and 2 on the women’s side.  League play will likely start up by the end of May so we will need to get everyone to get their registration money sent in as soon as they possibly can so we can get the league fees paid and put aside the funds needed for referees for the season.

If you have any questions about the community programs or the competitive teams, please email Brian at allainbrian@hotmail.com and we will try and get those answers for you.
