Under 11 Competitive Team Tryouts/Under 9 Travel teams
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to send along some information on the Under 11 tryouts that began this past Thursday night and also the Under 9 travel teams that we have planned for the summer.
UNDER 11 COMPETITIVE TEAMS - Girls & Boys:
We had some great numbers at the first tryouts on both the girls and boys side. We did notice after the session however that there were a few kids who showed up who were not registered. We will be doing a roll call at the next tryout and if you are not registered then you will not be allowed to participate in that session as you are not covered for insurance in case of injury.
The Under 11 teams primarily consist of anyone born in 2014 & 2015. These teams play in the PEI Soccer youth league and they could have games anywhere from Hernewood (home games) to Charlottetown or possibly beyond depending on how the divisions are made up. Parents also need to be made aware that the games will be taking place on either Friday evenings or Saturday mornings/early afternoon for the summer. Last year they switched the games to weeknights by the middle of July for the last 4-5 weeks, that is not taking place this year due to the lack of referees on the Island.
The Under 9 age group does not have a structured league as the under 11’s do. For that reason, we allow the under 9’s to tryout for the under 11 teams if they are looking to play at that competitive level for the full summer. If chosen for a team then they would remain with that under 11 team and it would be up to them if they also wanted to play community under 9.
The teams would play 1 game a week on the average (some weekends have tournaments so we have to do some scheduling around those) and they would practice once a week on the average.
PEI Soccer does not keep standings for this age group and they do not have a provincial playoff.
There are several clubs who offer tournaments so there is a chance to attend a tournament or two if parents are interested in such a thing, this cost would be covered by the players but it would be a chance to get an extra 3-4 games for the summer or more if they entered a couple of tournaments. More information will be sent on that once the teams are finalized.
With regards to league play, PEI Soccer has adopted the Canada soccer policy of an open roster so basically players will be allowed to move back and forth when needed to ensure that there are always enough players to play your scheduled games. Players will be assigned to each team for the duration of the season but it will allow the coaches to call up/call down when needed to make sure they have a roster for games as we are planning for two teams each on the girls and boys side.
UNDER 9 TRAVEL TEAMS - Girls & Boys:
I apologize if the wording of any of my previous updates made it seem like any of the kids who wanted to be on an under 9 travel team HAD to attend the under 11 tryouts. That is definitely NOT the case.
For the Under 9 travel teams - last year we had a group of girls who were very keen to get a little more training and play some games so we created a group and they practiced with the under 11 girls each week and then they went to a couple of the one day jamborees that other clubs put on and they also had a couple of exhibition games. All of the girls played community under 9 as this was simply an “extra” amount of training, it was not to take the place of the under 9 community program.
The plan for 2025 then is as follows…
I hope that explains things out a little more clearly. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me at allainbrian@hotmail.com
Sincerely,
Brian Allain
